Bollywood Still Waiting for its Major Hit of 2008

The third month of this year is going on, but Bollywood has not seen any major hits this year. Jodhaa Akbar was expected to be a super hit, but it failed to live up to the expectation. May be people had too much expectation from the Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai starrer Jodhaa Akbar. Though the movie has not faced financial loss, Jodhaa Akbar could not go that far what it was expected to. The movie is still out of Rajasthan with continuous protest against the movie going on in the state.

IBOS Network reported:

The 50 crore Jodhaa Akbar will finish its run at about 55 crore net at the Indian Box Office, and even those figures are being questioned in light of actual nearly empty occupancies being observed at most of the theater halls. Nonetheless the All India theatrical share should be about 30 crores and UTV share from overseas business will be another 15 crores. So Jodha Akbar may qualify for average return on investment ROI status, figuring in the fact that all world distributors are UTV and film has done well overseas, but overall theatrically remains far below the 200% distribution recovery needed for Hit status. The interiors for the magnum opus remain iffy and the film remains out of Rajasthan.

It is clear that the producers will not have any problem at all to make descent amount on the movie, but still it could not be considered to be the major hit of this year. According to IndiaFM, Jodhaa Akbar is leading the Box Office at this moment. Subhash Ghai’s latest release Black& White secures the second place in his opening week, while Rajat Kapoor directed Mithya is in the third place of the list. The fourth place is occupied by Aamir Khan Taare Zameen Par, followed by the movie Sunday which has spent five weeks in the theaters. So, Bollywood fans are yet to receive the first big hit of this year in the industry.

Never trust iBOS, it is a rabidly communal site, unless of course you share their views.

For box office updates go to boxofficeindia.com or indiafm OR Naachgaana.com.

As far as Jodha Akbar goes it is regarded as a hit by most trade people
